Will new Italian law force director resignations?

Over the coming weeks a new Italian law could force a wave of board-level resignations.

The country’s new government, headed by Mario Monti, has enacted the so-called Save Italy decree including Article 36 which prohibits interlocking directorships.

Enacted on December 22 2011, the provision makes it illegal for the same person to sit on the board of more than one bank, insurance or financial company.
