A mandatory merger notification system may be on its way in the UK.
Proposals raised in a consultation paper from the incoming Competition and Markets Authority suggest the UK may move away from a voluntary notification system and towards some form of mandatory system.
At present, even where competition authorities have jurisdiction over a merger, companies are the ones to decide whether to notify the OFT.
