Malta is set to be the big winner of the EUs Ucits IV legislation package released this month.
The schemes newly-confirmed passport provisions, coupled with the countrys liberal redomiciliation guidelines, will give Malta an edge over the EUs other fund centres in attracting Ucits-compliant structures.
We are seeing an increase in the number of funds establishing themselves in Malta, said Katya Azzopardi, partner at Simon Tortell & Associates in Valletta. This is largely due to the fact that many promoters wish to set up funds within an EU jurisdiction.
