Cleary and Shearman take lead in Vale/Bunge

Shearman & Sterling is advising Bunge on its sale of Brazilian fertiliser nutrients assets to Vale for $3.8 billion. Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton is representing Vale in the all cash transaction.

Partners Clare O’Brien and John Madden and counsel Dan Litowitz are leading the Shearman & Sterling team from the firm’s New York office. Jeffrey Lewis is the partner in charge of Cleary Gottlieb’s team.

Davis Polk & Wardwell is advising Credit Suisse as financial advisor to Bunge, while Vale’s equivalent, Deutsche Bank Securities, turned to Skadden Arps Slate Meagher & Flom led by Paul Schnell and Ann Beth Stebbins for representation.

For Brazilian advice, Vale hired Ulhôa Canto Rezende e Guerra Advogados and Bunge called upon Souza Cescon Barrieu & Flesch Advogados.
