Singapore winners Allen & Gledhill worked on some of this year's most innovative deals, serving as local counsel for the Ingersoll-Rand Bobcat acquisition by Doosan Infracore and the totemic Tyco restructuring. The firm also acted for Standard Chartered on the securitisation of $500 million Singapore dollar-denominated corporate bonds that marked the first Singapore-dollar managed cashflow CDO issued in the country and governed by its own law.

Hong Kong winner JSM had another excellent year in Asia, so much so that the firm ended the year by announcing a merger with international firm Mayer Brown. However, the firm earned its gongs as an independent entity. As well as acting on the joint venture between Citic and General Electric, it advised Deutsche Bank as arranger in Vinashin's bond issuance, Vietnam's largest corporate bond issue.
