Shearman & Sterling won law firm of the year at the IFLR Americas awards at the Waldorf Astoria in New York.

The firm had a strong performance across all areas, and won debt and equity-linked and M&A team of the year, plus was involved in three deal of the year awards. The firm took part in the debt and equity-linked deal of the year by representing Abu Dhabi Investment Authority in Citigroup's $7.5 billion private placement of hybrid securities, which started the sovereign wealth fund chain of events.

Shearman also represented the underwriters Merrill Lynch, Lehman Brothers, Barclays and Deutsche Bank Securities in Intergen's $1.88 billion high yield offering, which was shortlisted in the category.
